Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is a beautiful place to visit in June. Night skies over Mackinaw City provide good views of the Milky Way. A cabin rental in Au Train served as a base case for day trips to waterfalls and beautiful scenes along Lake Superior.


























Lakenenland Sculpture Park
Sculptures built from scrap iron by Tom Lakenen displayed on his property 15 miles east of Marquette, MI on highway M-28, across from Shot Point Road. The park is free.

The airshow was held September 2nd-4th at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, MI, sponsored by the Yankee Air Museum. Static displays and demonstrations made the day educational and entertaining and the aerobatic and Blue Angel performances were outstanding.

Appleumpkin Time
The city of Tecumseh and Kapnick Orchard coordinate a day of fall fun each year called “Appleumpkin”. Many vendors, food concessions and activities are provided and the festival attracts 15,000 visitors over its two day run.
Civil War Muster 2016
The annual Civil War Muster in Jackson, MI features two battle re-enactments. These photos are from the Gettysburg reenactment battle and also photos of the camp life as portrayed by the re-enactors.
Summer Scenes 2016
Lake Michigan along Michigan’s western shore is a delightfully long stretch of sand dunes, beaches and lighthouses. The USS Silversides submarine in Muskegon, MI, is available for tours and even overnight stays. The beach and lighthouse views are from Grand Haven and Ludington.

The Canadian Snowbirds Air Show
The Yankee Air Museum sponsored the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, MI. The aerobatics were spectacular.

Howell Nature Center
Professional nature photographer, Steve Gettle, hosted a nature photography workshop at the Howell Nature Center on May 7, 2016. These birds and animals are unable to survive in the wild and are permanent residents of the nature center.

Devil’s Tower
Suddenly seeing the massive rock formation appear on the landscape gets your attention. Even without knowing the legends or the association with the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, the visual impact inspires the imagination.
Mt Rushmore
Rain and fog obscured the first views of Mt Rushmore giving it a forbidding look. The weather cleared and re-clouded as we drove through Custer State Park and saw distance views of the monument. The next morning skies were clear
The Badlands
The Badlands arise suddenly out of the prairie. There are trails throughout the park but Paula couldn’t get past the “Beware of rattlesnakes” signs everywhere.
